A good startbecause every child deserves one.
Research-based prenatal courses that empower parents to confidently navigate the newborn phase.
Led by Dr. Stephany El Hayek: research scientist, breastfeeding counselor and mom of two.

About Me
Welcoming a new baby can be one of life's most transformative experiences, deeply fulfilling and also incredibly overwhelming. As a mother of two and a research scientist, I understand both the science behind early development and the very real emotions that come with early parenthood. My work brings together my PhD in reproductive biology, years of research experience, and my certifications in breastfeeding counselling and attachment parenting. But just as importantly, it is shaped by my own journey as a parent.
I created A Good Start to bridge the gap between research and the reality of daily life. As parents, we are surrounded by information, yet often left feeling unsure and unsupported. The courses I developed take a research-based, empathetic approach to help parents understand what is happening biologically and emotionally during the newborn and postpartum phase, and why it matters.
Through both personal experience and my work with expectant couples, I have seen that when parents feel informed, supported, and confident, they are better able to connect and show up with compassion for their children and themselves. Because a good start can make all the difference.
My Values
Practice what you preach
Most parents want to raise healthy, confident, independent, and kind children. When we care for our own wellbeing, respond to our children's feelings with respect and empathy, and model kindness and gratitude, they learn not from what we say, but from how we live.
Knowledge is power
Early parenthood can feel like a beautiful but overwhelming whirlwind. Research-backed information and honest, compassionate support empower parents to approach the newborn phase with confidence, fulfillment, and connection.
Connection
Connection is at the core of attachment. In the first year of life, consistent responsive caregiving and nurturing physical contact have a significant and long-lasting impact on several aspects of neural, physical, and emotional development.
Research-Based
The first three years of life are the most critical window of development and have long-lasting health effects. In recent decades, research in neurodevelopment, epigenetics, attachment, and the microbiome has expanded our understanding of these effects.Translating this science into clear guidance helps parents confidently apply research-backed practices in everyday life.
